A turbulent history

A painting of the Danish army on battlefield

The easily processed and well-drained soils around Femsjö were cultivated early. Findings and some 30 ancient monuments show that people have been living in the area long before Christ’s birth. The location near the old Swedish-Danish border meant that life in the village occasionally became turbulent.

Femsjö was ravaged during the wars in the 16th and 17th centuries. Without resistance from the Swedish armed forces, the Danish warships could occasionally ravage freely. The parish was completely deserted during certain periods.
